Beginners beware - there are no instructions or documentation with this "kit", it is a PC board and a bag of parts. That's it. But, that's okay because when you install the parts per the component outline/value printed on the top of the PC board and add the solder - you'll end up with a 100% accurate implementation of the open source project described in all detail at this link: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/attachment/143813/TTester_096k.pdf Since the PC board in this kit implements the open source project schematic with 100% accuracy, the board also uses the open source AVR code. This allows you to extend the design, change its behavior or just use it as is, the choice is yours. This is unlike all the clones of this design that you see on ebay and other places. I have seen many clones that implement the basic design but cut corners using cheap parts, some even eliminate the precision 2.5 volt reference chip which significantly impacts the accuracy of all measurements. This version uses the ATMEGA328P-PU which has 32kb of flash even though they could have used the cheaper 16k version since that is all the design requires. This will allow for customization if you are so inclined! FWIW, this is the same 28 pin DIP package that the Arduino UNO uses. The only negatives I have about the unit are: 1) The press to test switch is lacking a large surface to press. A 2 cent snap on cap would have been nice. 2) The choice of LCD (white on blue) requires the use of the LED backlight which means significantly shorter battery life when using this in portable mode. A black on silver LCD with no backlight would have been a better choice, IMO. You can always change this out if you like since it is a standard 1602 device that can be had for $2-$3. The unit does provide the same 2.1/5.5 MM power jack as used on Arduino's if you want to power it with a 9vdc wallwart. 3) The placement of the 3 point terminal strip in front of the SMD pad areas is a real pain. They could have moved the battery terminal pads elsewhere so that you could use the very nice SMD pads to test any size SMD device. Having the terminal in front of the pads makes it almost impossible to test surface mount parts. 4) The ATMEGA328P processor: while it was in a good static shielding bag, there was no lead protection, it was just tossed in with the other parts which resulting in some very bent pins. This might result in broken pins if you are not careful when straightening them. Integrated circuits should always be shipped with some form of lead protection! In spite of the above criticisms, I like this kit enough to buy several more to build and give to friends. The parts and board are excellent quality, the parts kit was exact with no missing or wrong parts.
